In her informative talk about Jamaica, Joan Webley explained how her personal background (as the daughter of two politicians) had influenced her life and her aims.
Having worked and studied in several different countries and organisations, she is now married to a “local” Italian and lives and works here.
This summer she organized “Jamit” a music festival here in Salento involving reggae music, also with the aim of promoting Jamaica, and trying to work towards solving some of the social problems that dominate Jamaican life – poverty and aggression, especially against women.
She is very aware of a lot of similarities between Salento and the island of Jamaica, and at some point in the future would like to organize a Carnival in the Jamaican sense.
